How to resume a client project after a week away
The hardest part of returning to a project is often remembering its unfinished edge. The latest file tells you what exists, but not necessarily why you stopped or which decision was still open.
A short restart review should produce three things: the current source, the unresolved question and the next action. Use work history to locate clues, then verify them in the project’s own records.
Start with the last deliberate artifact
Open the last deliverable, project note or message you intentionally saved. Check its date and whether a newer revision exists. Avoid assuming that the most recently opened file is the approved version.
For a website project, that artifact might be a design file, a requirements document or a written client decision. Write down which one currently controls the work.
Reconstruct only the relevant period
Choose the last day or two when you worked on the project. In CiteSilo’s Today view, use Projects and activity to inspect a project tag if you previously assigned one. Otherwise, inspect the likely activities and documents.
Retained sources can help you identify a page or passage you reviewed. They are clues to the work, not a complete project record. Missing capture, exclusions or retention can leave parts of the sequence unavailable.
If a source link opens a current document, check whether the content changed since the recorded activity. An old screen and today’s file may describe different states.
Separate decisions from possibilities
Make two short lists in your own notes: “confirmed” and “still open”. Put a decision under confirmed only when you can point to the original agreement or a verified project record.
For example, a captured pricing page can show that you considered an option. It does not establish that the client accepted that option. Look for the actual decision in the appropriate message or document.
This distinction prevents a plausible memory from silently becoming a requirement.
Write a restart note
Use four lines:
- Current artifact: the file or page to continue from.
- Last verified change: what you can confirm was completed.
- Open question: the decision or missing input still needed.
- Next action: a small step you can begin immediately.
Keep the links in your normal project notes. This is a manual working note; CiteSilo does not automatically create or deliver a client handoff.
Improve the next return
Before leaving the project again, update the restart note and tag the relevant recorded activity if that helps you find it. Prefer a few useful tags over an elaborate taxonomy that you cannot maintain.
A project duration estimate can provide context, but it cannot tell you how much work remains. Base the restart plan on the unfinished task.
