A five-minute end-of-day note that helps tomorrow

A useful end-of-day note is a bridge to tomorrow’s first action. It does not need to describe every task you touched.

Set aside a few minutes to record where the work stands and what you would do next if you continued now.

Begin with the unfinished task

Choose the project most likely to be difficult to resume. Open its current artifact and identify the exact point where you are stopping.

Write a concrete sentence: “The draft is complete through the examples section; the final comparison still needs checking.” This is more useful than “continue writing”.

If several projects are active, give each one a short line rather than creating a detailed diary.

Check what actually changed

Look at the saved file, project record or verified outcome. Use CiteSilo’s activity view or local search if you need help locating something you worked on.

A session in an application can remind you where to look, but it does not prove that a change was saved or delivered. Confirm that in the original source.

If you are uncertain, write the uncertainty instead of polishing it into a confident update.

Leave one next action

Choose a step that can be started without repeating the whole planning process. “Open the budget sheet and confirm the tax assumption” is better than “finish the proposal”.

Include the relevant file location, page or source reference. If the next action depends on someone else, name the missing input rather than pretending it is ready.

You are reducing the number of decisions your future self must make before starting.

Capture the question you were holding in mind

The most fragile context is often an unresolved question: why a result looks wrong, which version is current or whether a requirement applies.

Write that question in your own words. Add the last observation you verified and the source that supports it.

If you use an optional AI summary, check it before copying. A summary can make an unfinished question sound like a resolved conclusion.

Close with a small check

Confirm that the note is saved somewhere you normally open for the project. If you use project tags in CiteSilo, tag relevant recorded activity while the context is fresh.

Do not enable more recording just to replace the note. Deliberate context and captured history serve different purposes.

A practical template is four lines: current artifact, last verified change, open question and next action. Stop when those lines are clear.
